SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES

Academic Mentoring

Wilsonville HS and Wood MS. Meet 1-2 hrs a week with a kid who is struggling in one or more classes.  You don’t have to know the content, just be able to sit with them,build a relationship, keep them on task and help them get organized. Meet during or after school.

Mentoring

In Woodburn through the city program and Police Activities League  Kate Schmitt, a Grace Chapel member runs the program and is looking for great people. 1 hour a week requirement.  Meet with a middle or high school kid.  All the curriculum and planning is done for you.  All you do is show up with a heart for kids and a willingness to step into their life. Woodburn is a diverse community with a high poverty rate and in need of caring adults to walk with kids.

Prison Fellowship

Work with prison fellowship in various correction institutions around the Portland area. Minister to 10-70 inmates with a group of volunteers once a week. There is also opportunities for serving outside of correction institutions working with inmates transitioning back into society.

Young Life

Be a volunteer leader with Wilsonville Young Life for the high school or middle school (WyldLife) program.  Be part of a missional community of leaders focusing on the middle school or high school – build relationships with kids, win the right to share the Gospel, take kids to camp, walk with them through the ups and downs of teenage life.  2 to 5 hours a week – a bigger commitment, but very rewarding as well.

Wilsonville Community Sharing and Food Bank

Serve in a number of different areas that help families in Wilsonville. Wilsonville Community Sharing works hard at matching volunteer skills and interests with the needs of the organization. for more info visit

Willie Fit Mentor

Run and train with the Willie Fit running club at Wilsonville HS as they train for the Helvetia Half Marathon in June of 2011.  Mentors build relationships and train with a group of kids.  Starts in February and ends in June.  We train Mondays and Wednesdays after school from 3-4pm and Saturday mornings.  A great way to get involved in the school and the lives of kids.

Grace Chapel Serving Opportunities

Church Under the Bridge

Meet on the last Sunday of the month and go down with other people from Grace Chapel to serve the homeless in Portland under the steel bridge. Meet at Boberg office at 1:30 to pray and caravan together. Check out their blog for all the latest information and details.

First Impressions

Help make Sunday mornings at Grace Chapel a welcoming environment for all to enjoy. Help out with parking, ushering, greeting, and coffee. Serve first or second service odd or even months.

Kidventure

Be a teacher with the Kidventure ministry. Working with Kidventure  will not only get you more connected to the body of Grace Chapel and be fun, but will also strengthen your obedience to Christ as you live out your faith through service. Serve first or second service for the school year.
